The Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly emphasized the importance of good-neighborly policy, stating that sustainable relations with neighboring countries, particularly Afghanistan, and leveraging border capacities for economic development and security assurance are among the main priorities of Iran's foreign policy.

Cooperation with Neighbors is Essential for Economic and Security Development

In an interview with Khaneh Mellat, Ebrahim Azizi, Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, stressed the importance of good-neighborly relations, saying:
“The Islamic Republic of Iran places a special diplomatic emphasis on neighboring countries, and the development of comprehensive and sustainable relations with them has always been one of the country’s key foreign policy strategies.”

The Shiraz representative in the Parliament added:
“Advancing neighborly policies requires a balanced, comprehensive, and sustainable approach. Iran shares borders with 15 countries and possesses unique geopolitical and geoeconomic capacities. These capacities must be directed in a way that harmonizes border potentials with economic needs.”

Referring to the long-standing relationship between Iran and Pakistan, he said:
“Pakistan provided firm support to our country during the 12-day war and has maintained very good relations with Iran over the past years. We share approximately 600 to 700 kilometers of common border with Pakistan, which should be appreciated as part of good-neighborly relations. Our ties with Pakistan are not limited to official visits; continuous and sustainable cooperation exists and will continue.”

The Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee further stressed:
“We maintain long-standing, sustainable, and growing relations with all neighboring countries and must take advantage of mutual capacities. Delegation visits and economic and trade exchanges can facilitate economic growth indicators, and cooperation in defense and security, particularly border security, is essential.”

He concluded:
“The government must seriously implement agreements concluded with other countries, as the execution of agreements is more important than the visits themselves. The Parliament also emphasizes full implementation of agreements and, if necessary, through the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, will provide necessary support to ensure the country’s foreign policy proceeds in a lawful manner.”
